The San Jose Academy: A Legacy of Excellence

Established under the visionary leadership of the late Msgr. Jose A. Mirasol and supported by devoted parishioners and the Maryknoll Sisters, the San Jose Academy (SnJA) has been a beacon of education since its inception on January 23, 1970.

Founding Years: Laying the Foundation for Success

In June 1970, the academy commenced Kindergarten classes in the “convento” with teachers from St. James Academy, under the stewardship of Msgr. Jose Mirasol as the inaugural school director. As enrollment surged, renovations transformed the old convent to accommodate more classrooms, and the school secured government permits to operate both preschool and grade school departments.

Expansion and Vision Realization

By March 1977, SnJA celebrated its first graduation, marking a significant milestone in its journey. Responding to growing demand, the academy obtained approval to offer secondary education, appointing Mrs. Virginia Roldan and Ms. Lucila dela Vega as the first lay high school and grade school principals. Meanwhile, its outreach program flourished, extending education to public schools in Navotas and offering free vocational and evening high school classes to underprivileged youth—a testament to Msgr. Mirasol’s enduring vision.

Evolution and Growth: Leadership Transitions

Successive leadership transitions ushered in periods of growth and transformation. Under the direction of Msgr. Pacifico Ma. Mendoza and Fr. Lorenzo J. Egos, the school expanded its infrastructure to accommodate a burgeoning student population. However, challenges arose with Msgr. Severino Casas and Msgr. Celso Ditan, who navigated financial constraints and declining enrollment.

A New Era: Renewed Vision and Spirituality

In 1991, a new chapter began with the arrival of Rev. Fr. Rolando dela Cruz, marked by numerous enhancements to the school’s facilities and educational offerings. Subsequent directors, including Msgr. Jose Norriel B. Bandojo and Rev. Fr. Sanny de Claro, prioritized faculty development, technological advancement, and spiritual enrichment, fostering a culture of excellence and community engagement.
